What are fleas ?
There are over 2,000 species of fleas that reside in the United States, but there are only one species of flea (Ctenocephalides felis, the “cat flea”) that tend to invade homes more often. These tiny, parasitic pests depend on the blood of animals or humans to survive, though they do seem to prefer feeding on the blood of animals rather than humans. Warm-blooded mammals such as cats, humans, dogs, deer, and even other home-invading pests such as mice or rats are all common hosts for fleas. They infest homes when their host enters your property. Once fleas have gotten inside, they become a nightmare to get rid of, with female fleas capable of producing over a thousand eggs during their lifetime. If even a single flea finds its way into your home, that one flea can grow to one thousand in no time at all, growing the pest problem inside your home.
